In the attorney-client relationship the client is the boss and the lawyer is the employee. You hire a lawyer to work for you and they should do just that. Still, you will need to participate in several key aspects of the litigation.

Once a case is filed, the law provides for “discovery” where each side is allowed to find out information from the other. We will ask the doctors and hospitals to answer written questions, and they are entitled to ask you to do so. We ask them to produce documents and items, and they ask you to do so. We take their depositions (a formal session where an individual is asked questions under oath) and they are entitled to yours too. In order to represent you we will need your help in participating in the discovery process by supplying us with the information we need to comply with the requirements of the law. Obviously, we will help you and provide you with advice and direction every step of the way.

If a case is settled, you will make that decision. No case is ever settled without the client’s express consent and direction. If a case is tried, you will need to be at the trial. Again, we will be with you every step of the way.

What will be expected of me?
